Abstract

958,331. Mounting gas burners. GAZ DE FRANCE. June 28, 1962 [June 29, 1961; June 18, 1962], No. 24881/62. Headings F4B and F4T. A device for transforming a boiler using solid fuels to one using gaseous fuels, comprises a gas burner mounted on a plate 1 adapted to fit an aperture provided on the ash-pan of the boiler, the burner consisting of a gas pipe 4 bent to the shape of an open rectangle and provided with a cock 3 and a regulator valve 8, the lower horizontal side forming a manifold 12 having injector nozzles 26 directed into burner tubes 11 which pass through apertures in the plate 1 into the ash-pan. The burner tubes 11 are U-shaped and are disposed with one branch vertically above the other. The lower open branch 11b of each tube is secured by a screw 27 to a socket 24 mounted on an injector nozzle 26 screwed into the manifold. The socket 24 has perforations 25 for the admission of primary air. An aluminium alloy Venturi 22 is either threaded into the branch 11b or is slidably mounted and secured by a screw 23 as shown. The closed upper branch 11a has gas outlet slots 20, each slot extending through a sector of between 140 and 160 degrees and inclined at an angle of 15 to 20 degrees to the vertical transverse plane. The slots of any two adjacent burners are arranged to be in different planes. Longitudinal radial fins 30 are provided beneath the slots. A tapered rod 21 situated within the branch 11a increases the gas velocity near the closed end and a threaded rod 18 secures the branch to the plate 1. A pilot burner 14 and its control device 15 are mounted within the rectangle formed by the feed-pipe 4. The device is enclosed by a removable case 70 having an open base and a back 71 located in lugs 72 on the plate 1. One lateral wall 73 is wider than the other walls 74, 75. A hinged door 82 has upper and lateral walls 76, 77 provided with notches 78 and 79 to allow the passage of the cock handle and a chain (not shown) which extends from a thermostat to the valve 8. A detachable rod 80 may extend between the lateral walls 73, 74. Preferably, louvres 81 are formed in the door and the walls of the case body.
