958,162. Electrically propelled vehicles; vehicle frames. LANSING BAGNALL Ltd. May 2, 1963 [May 7, 1962], No. 17523/62. Headings B7D and B7H. The chassis of a vehicle, Fig. 3, comprises a floor 20 with upright front and rear transverse flanges 21, 22 on which are mounted supporting members for the wheels, the flanges being joined by a bracing member 27 spaced from the sides of the floor to form a pair of receptacles for batteries 74 or for batteries on one side and an engine-generator set on the other. In a first embodiment, a fork lift truck, Figs. 2 and 3, the front wheel support brackets 35, 36 are mounted on an open top box member 33/37 braced by footboard supports 30 and transverse plate 38. The rear wheels 13 are mounted on stub axles 62 each of which is pivotable about a vertical axis in rear wheel support member 52 the longitudinal pins 51 of which pivot in brackets 49 mounted below the flanged trough member 39 secured behind flange 22. Electric driving motor 18 is mounted on a bracket 54 and connected to the front wheel gearing by drive shaft 56 passing through bracing member 27 and apertures in the front and rear flanges. Electric motors 172, 173 drive hydraulic pumps 72, 73 for raising the lift forks 17 and tilting the mast about pins 70 on the brackets 35, 36. Counter weights 75 are mounted on each side of motor 18. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, a tractor, the rear wheels 92 are driven by front mounted electric motor 93 and the front wheels are steerable.
