A hair curler has flexible bristles 3 fixedly secured to a strip of fabric 2 wound round a body or core 1 of foam rubber or plastic, the bristles at the centre part 6 of the curler keeping a lock of hair in position and being fewer per unit area than those at the ends 4, 5 which anchor the curler to the head. In modifications the central bristles are in a helical row or irregularly spaced, and may be shorter and have spherical heads, the body is of moulded openwork plastic, and the bristle bearing fabric strip is apertured.
