957,545. Level indicator in hoppers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 28. 1963 [May 28, 1962], No. 20450/62. Heading B8S. A level detector for a hopper 1 is formed by a weight hung on a cable 4 which is secured to an eccentric peg fixed on disc 5 rotated by motor 6. The cable passes round spring-biased pulley 8 so that normally weight 3 is reciprocated vertically by the operation of disc 5, thus maintaining cable 4 taut and switch 9 unactuated. When the material builds up in hopper 1 beyond the predetermined limit the weight 3 in its reciprocating movement contacts the surface of the material and cable 4 slackens, This causes the actuation of switch 9 and gives a warning. Weight 3 may act similarly to give a warning when a lower limit of material in the hopper is to be indicated. Alternatively cable 4 may operate outside the hopper and actuate a pivoted bar as a level indicator within the hopper.
