Abstract

956,965. Cases for fragile articles. B.X. PLASTICS Ltd. Feb. 6, 1961 [Dec. 1, 1959], No. 40846/59. Heading B8P. A case comprises an article supporting pocket of flexible material, the pocket being in contact with the walls or base only where it is anchored to supporting points. The pockets 4 are thinner than the adjacent portions of the sheet from which the pockets are formed. The pockets may be vacuum formed in a sheet extending across the open top of the box and secured to the tops of the side walls. In the embodiment shown, the pockets 4 in the flexible sheet are supported by members 6 which engage the under surface of the sheet. The flexible sheet may be fixed by adhesive or may be mechanically fixed or heat-sealed to the walls 1. The flexible sheet may be of polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, toughened polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate or rubber hydrochloride. The thickness of the pockets may be between 0.011 and 0.0005 inch. A lid formed in the same manner and having complementary pockets may be provided; an article is then wholly enclosed in pockets in the body and lid portions.
