956,621. Roll holders. STEINER CO. LAUSANNE S.A. Nov. 2, 1961 [Jan. 26, 1961], No. 39222/61. Heading A4G. A toilet-roll holder, e.g. constructed as in Specification 747, 176 and carrying a reserve roll, has a torsion spring wire brake acting on the periphery of the lower roll and is preferably moulded in plastic. The toilet-roll is supported on balls 53 when these project from holes 56. The balls abut a fluted stem 62a of a plug 60 and, on turning the plug, by means of key 70, can move radially inwardly into grooves 62b to allow the core of a spent roll to fall from spindle 38. After replenishing the rolls, upward finger pressure on non-rotatable plate 67 rotates plug 60, as the balls ride on slopes 64a, and the stem 62a pushes them partly through holes 56. In another form (Figs. 14-18, not shown), V-shaped ball-receiving depressions are provided to guide the plug and actuate the balls.
