In a method of purifying condensate from a condensing turbine, condensate produced by the adiabatic expansion of steam in the wet steam zone of the turbine and containing the major portion of the impurities is separated from the steam, collected and purified without prior mixing with the main bulk of condensate obtained in the condenser, and then returned to the main condensate circuit from the condenser. Condensate formed in the end stages of the turbine, after separation and collection, is cooled to a temperature suitable for the ion exchange mass, and then purified in a mixed bed filter which is substantially smaller than that which would be required for the purification of the total condensate in the hot well. In the apparatus shown, the condensate formed between the blades of the turbine housing 10 is separated and collected from various expansion stages 11 and the steam bleed pipes 12 and is then fed by pipes 13 to a small anion and cation exchanger 14 before joining the main condensate stream from the condenser 15.
