Abstract

955,982. Toy guns. LOUIS MARX & CO. Ltd. July 29, 1960 [April 15, 1960 No. 26577/60. Heading A6S. A toy gun simulates used shell ejection from the breech portion of the gun, the gun having a magazine for receiving a quantity of shells, a shell ejector at the breech portion of the gun for ejecting a shell transversely of its length, a spring in the magazine urging the shells to the ejector and means to operate the ejector to eject a shell, the spring serving to feed the next shell from the magazine to the ejector after retraction of the ejector. The magazine 40 in the barrel of the gun houses the shells 48, 50 which are urged rearwardly by a spring acting on a pusher 46. The shells are introduced into the magazine through an inwardly pivoting spring-urged door in the breech. The end shell abuts a ledge 56 on a slide 60 carrying an arm 78 with a pivoting ejector 42. Cooking the lever 24 moves the slide 60 rearwardly by a stud 66 on the lever engaged in a notch 64 in the slide and allows the end shell to move to an opening. The trunnions 80 of the ejector 42 move in guides 90 until a finger 84 on the ejector strikes an abutment 86 which rotates the ejector to eject a shell from the breech. Pressing a fingertab 18 forwards a feed dog 144 for the caps which move over a slotted plate to an integral anvil. The finger tab 18 has a lever arm with a stud which engages in a slot 162 in the feed dog. The feed dog has two pins 146 which pass through the slotted plate and grip the caps. The finger tab carries a lateral hammer 128 for striking caps on the anvil. The feed-dog 144 carries a stud 168 which moves over a guide 170 during forward movement, drops at the end of the guide to release the pins 146 from the caps, passes under the guide, is raised at the end by a spring 172 to again abut the top of the guide 170 with the pins 146 engaged in and ready to feed the caps. Pressing the finger tab 18 stretches a spring 152 connecting the hammer end to the gun and pulling the trigger 20 releases the hammer 128 to explode a cap. The end of the branch 122 of the trigger engages the cammed end of the arm 156 of the hammer and when the trigger is pulled the arm 156 is released and the hammer strikes the cap on the anvil. The cocking lever 24 which is provided with a camming edge 182 co-operates with a cam follower 158 on the live arm 156 to cock the hammer lever which is locked by the branch 122 of the trigger 20 until the trigger 20 is pulled, this results in a cap being exploded and a shell being ejected. The outer body of the gun is moulded from plastics material in two halves aligned by dowels engaging in holes and cemented together and with sockets for studs on the frame member 200. Specification 955,983 is referred to.
