Abstract
Articles of leather are dyed by first subjecting the leather to a shot- or sand-blasting treatment in a suitable machine and thereafter applying to it a dye solution, stain or lacquer. After the shot- or sand-blasting and before the dyeing the leather surface may be sponged or washed with an alcoholic solution of nitrocellulose or methylcellulose. The process is particularly applicable to leather shoes. The dye, solution or lacquer is preferably applied by means of an air-operated spray gun or nozzle and the article so treated allowed to dry. Further applications can then be made as required.
