Abstract
The invention comprises sucrose octa-diphenyl phosphate having the formula: <FORM:0955757/C2/1> wherein R is a <FORM:0955757/C2/2> group. The compound may be obtained by reacting sucrose with mono-chloro-diphenyl phosphate and anhydrous pyridine in the molar proportion of 1:10:12 respectively while cooling the mixture and then raising the temperature and continuing the reaction until esterification is complete. The product is useful as a gelatinizing agent for cellulose esters (see Division C3).ALSO:Sucrose octadiphenylphosphate having the formula:-<FORM:0955757/C3/1> wherein R is a <FORM:0955757/C3/2> group (see Division C2) is added as a gelatinizer to a solution of a cellulose ester, e.g. to a solution of cellulose acetate in a mixture of methylene chloride and ethyl alcohol containing a small amount of a plasticizer.
