Abstract

[Also in Division D1] A frusto-conical bobbin is provided with grooves 2 in its periphery, each groove having the flank 4 thereof nearer the smaller end of the bobbin substantially perpendicular, i.e. at an angle which may deviate from the true perpendicular by up to 10 degrees, to the bobbin axis 5 while the other flank 6 is oblique to the axis 5, and frusto-conical surfaces 9 of approximately the same length as the flanks 6 extend substantially the whole winding length of the bobbin and line in the surface generated by the cone generator 10 between the flanks 4, 6, each surface 9 forming with the adjacent flank 4 an annular edge 20 to prevent slippage of the windings. Apertures 11, 12, preferably with bevelled edges, are formed in the surfaces 9 and the flanks 6 respectively to allow treatment media, e.g. dye, to pass therethrough. Grooves 13, 15 are formed at the bobbin ends to hold the turns of the yarn at the end of the winding. In a modification, Fig. 4, each flank 4<SP>1 </SP>is inclined at an angle of not more than 10 degrees to a plane perpendicular to the axis 5. The bobbin may be made of polyvinyl acetate.
