955,687. Lithographic printing plates. KALLE A. G. Sept. 16, 1960 [Sept. 18, 1959], No. 32034/60. Heading G2M. Lithographic printing plates, for preparation of which the conventional photomechanical procedure is quoted, are contacted with a solution containing a compound yielding fluoride ions in quantity of 0.0005 to 0.1% by weight for the purpose of avoiding ink-acceptance, referred to as scumming, of the non-image areas. The solutions may be acid or alkaline and may comprise the fountain water with inclusion of normal ingredients thereof. Numerous simple and even complex fluoride salts are quoted for the purpose. Five examples illustrate the procedure using aluminium printing plates and phosphoric acid along with the fluorides, numerous comparison results being included. The fluorides may be used also in developing solutions for the plates.
