955,669. Pipe joints. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 31, 1961 [Feb. 10, 1960], No. 4787/60. Heading F2G. [Also in Division G6] A machine 1 for refuelling a nuclear reactor comprises a charge tube 4 having a lower end 3 provided with a stepped bore and a sleeve 5, slidable within the bore. The upper end of the sleeve is stepped to form a piston 6, the stepped portions of the sleeve and piston defining an annular chamber 7 connected by a pipe 59 to either a steam pressure supply or a steam condenser. The upper and lower ends of the sleeve 5 have sealing rings 10, 11 and the tube 4 may be lowered from the position shown so that a sealing face 51 enters the recess 65 of a stand-pipe 2, the sleeve then being lowered by connecting the pipe 59 to the condenser so that rings 11 seal with the stand-pipe bore 64. The sleeve 5 is subsequently raised by connecting the pipe 59 to the steam pressure supply. Specification 912,537 is referred to.
