955,574. Covers for luggage carriers; sun shields. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Dec. 29, 1961 [Dec. 30, 1960], No. 46705/61. Heading B7J. A hood 8, e.g. made of synthetic plastic reinforced with glass fibre, is arranged over a luggage container 3 on a motor vehicle roof 1 so that the sealing and seating line of the hood on a resilient channel 7 on the upper edge 6 of the container, is disposed above the lower edge 12 of the hood, the latter edge surrounding the roof, and so that at the front of the vehicle it serves as a sun shield. In another embodiment luggage is carried directly on the roof which is provided around its edge with a wall whose upper edge has a resilient channel thereon to seat and seal the hood. The edge of the hood is turned-in instead of outwardly as shown in Fig. 1. According to another embodiment the roof projects outwardly beyond the vehicle walls, windscreen and rear window and has a sealing bead to engage the interior walls of the hood. In this instance the hood is in two parts hinged transversely to a luggage rack on the roof.
