Abstract
955,385. Inspecting stockings. P. A. GAZZANIGA. Jan.29, 1963 [May 15, 1962], No. 3540/63. Heading D1S. Apparatus for inspecting stockings and socks comprises two rotatable tubes 7 and means 11 for the internal illumination thereof, the tubes 7 being mounted so as to be selectively aligned, Fig. 2 (not shown), so that a stocking may be turned inside out from one tube to the other or misaligned, Fig. 1, to facilitate positioning of a stocking on or the removal of a stocking from either of the tubes 7. Each tube 7 comprises a glass or translucent synthetic plastic casing 14 surrounding a lamp 11, e.g. a neon tube, and being supported by a bush 13 rotatably mounted by bearings 12 in a sleeve 6<SP>1</SP> secured to the boss 5. The casing 14 may be replaceable by similar casings of different sizes according to the stocking size. The tube 7 on the right-hand side of Fig. 1 is moved to the position shown by depressing a foot pedal 24 which rotates a lever pivoted at 22, Fig. 4, clockwise through a rod 21 so that a projection 21 releases a protrusion 20 on the boss 5 to allow an adjustable-tension spring 16 to rotate the boss 5. In use, a stocking is slipped on to the right-hand tube 7 which is brought back mannually to the horizontal and which is then manually turned to inspect the stocking. The stocking is turned inside out on to the left-hand tube 7 and the other side thereof inspected. The lever 24 is depressed to raise the right-hand tube 7 and the stocking removed. A counter (not shown) may be operated by the pivotable tube 7 to indicate the number of operations performed. An additional lamp (not shown) may be provided to illuminate the stocking from the outside and the three lamps may be actuated by three independent switches.
