Abstract

N-acyl-homocystein thiolactones are prepared by demethylating N-acyl-methionines by reaction with an alkali metal and liquid ammonia and then cyclizing the resulting N-acyl-homocysteins. The cyclization is preferably effected by heating in an acid medium. Examples describe the preparation of N-acetyl-homocystein thiolactone.
