Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula: <FORM:0954735/C2/1> where R is an alkyl group, R1 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy-, alkoxy- or dialkylamino-group, R2 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy- or alkoxy-group, and A is a direct link, or ethylene group, or, when R is an ethyl group, a methylene group, acid addition salts thereof, and their preparation by (1) reaction of g , g -diphenylpropylamine with a ketone of formula: <FORM:0954735/C2/2> with simultaneous or subsequent reduction of the product, (2) reaction of b , b -diphenyl-propionaldehyde with an amine of formula: <FORM:0954735/C2/3> with simulataneous or subsequent reduction of the product, or (3) reaction of a compound of formula: <FORM:0954735/C2/4> where X is a halogen atom and R3 a hydrogen atom or a benzyl group, in the presence of an acid-binding agent, with diphenylmethane or diphenylacetonitrile, followed by removal of any benzyl and/or nitrile group by catalytic hydrogenalysis. The above compounds have a coronary dilatant effect (see Division A5).ALSO:Compounds of formula <FORM:0954735/A5-A6/1> (see Division C2) where R is an alkyl group, R1 is a hydrogen atom, or a hydroxy, alkoxy or dialkylamino-group, R2 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy or alkoxy group, and A is a direct link, an ethylene group, or, when R is a methyl group, a methylene group, and acid addition salts thereof, have a coronary dilatant effect and may be used alone, in combination with other vaso-dilatants, narcotics, sedatives or hypotensives, e.g. reserpines, or in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, e.g. in the form of tablets, dragees, capsules, powders, solutions or suspensions. Typical salts are those with maleic, lactic, gluconic, citric, ascorbic and tartaric acids.
