Abstract

Highly unsaturated hydrocarbons in a gas containing predominantly olefinic hydrocarbons are selectively hydrogenated by contacting the gas, admixed with sufficient hydrogen to reduce the acetylenes and diolefins to olefins, with a catalyst comprising 0.01-0.09% Pd and 0.01-0.09% Cr. deposited predominantly in the surface of an alumina carrier the surface pores of which have a volume of 0.0-0.4 c.c/g. and a threshold diameter not exceeding 800 <\>rA. The examples describe the selective hydrogenation of methylacetylene and propadiene in a predominantly propylene gas stream.ALSO:Selective hydrogenation catalysts comprise 0,01-0,09 wt per cent Pd and 0,01-0,09 wt. per cent Cr deposited predominantly in the surface of an alumina carrier having a pore volume of surface pores 0,0-0,4 c.c./g., and a threshold diameter of surface pores not exceeding 800 .
