Abstract
A plant growth regulant composition comprises as active ingredients a compound selected from the group consisting of N - disubstituted aminoamic acids, in which the disubstituted amino radical is selected from the group consisting of dialkylamino, 1-pyrrolidyl, 1-piperidyl and 4-morpholinyl radicals, and the amic acid is selected from the group consisting of maleamic, succinamic, alpha-alkenylsuccinamic, alpha-arylsuccinamic, alpha-acyloxysuccinamic, alpha-alkylthiosuccinamic, and alpha-arylthiosuccinamic acids, and the salts and imides of the N-disubstitutedamino amic acids. Specified active ingredients are N-dimethylaminomaleamic acid, N - di - n - octylaminomaleamic acid, N-dimethylaminocitraconamic acid, N-dimethyl aminomaleimide, N-(4-morpholinyl) maleamic acid, N-(4-morpholinyl) maleimide, N-dimethylaminosuccinamic acid, N-dimethylaminosuccinimide, N - dimethylamino - alpha - tetrapropenylsuccinamic acid, N-dimethylamino-alphaphenylthiosuccinamic acid, N-dimethylamino alpha-phenylthiosuccinimide. The composition may be in the form of dusts with powdered solid carries such as mica, talc, pyrrophyllite and clays, in aqueous solution or a solution in organic solvents, e.g. acetone, benzene, kerosene. Surface active agents may also be incorporated in each of these forms. The invention also comprises methods of regulating plant growth by applying the compounds to plants, i.e. seeds, flowers, fruits, vegetables, roots and foliage or to soil in which seeds are planted Examples are given showing the dwarfing effect on plants of the compounds. Specification 693,912 is referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds from the group consisting of N-disubstituted amino amic acids in which the disubstituted amino radical is selected from the group consisting of dialkylamino, 1-pyrrolidyl, 1-piperidyl and 4-morpholinyl radicals, and the amic acid is selected from the group consisting of maleamic, a -alkyl maleamic, succinamic, alpha-alkenylsuccinamic, alpha-aryl-succinamic, alpha-acyloxysuccanamic, alpha-alkylthiosuccinamic, and alpha-arylthiosuccinamic acids, and the salts and imides of the N-disubstituted amino amic acids. Per se compounds claimed are N-dimethylaminomaleamic acid, N-dimethylaminomaleimide N-dimethylaminosuccinamic acid, N-dimethylaminosuccinimide, N-dimethylaminocitraconamic acid. The N-disubstitutedamino amic acids are prepared by reacting the selected 1, 1-disubstituted hydrazine with the anhydride of the selected dicarboxylic acid. The imides of these acids are prepared by removing water from the acid by means of acetic anhydride. The salts may readily be formed directly from the acid and a selected base such as an alkali-metal hydroxide or carbonate, or ammonia, or an amine. In an example N-dimethylaminomaleamic acid is produced by reacting 1-1, dimethyl hydrazine with maleic anhydride. By using N-aminomorpholine instead of the hydrazine N-(4-morpholinyl) maleamic acid is obtained. In another example N-dimethylaminomaleimide is prepared by reacting the corresponding maleamic acid with acetic anhydride. In another example N-dimethylaminocitraconamic acid is produced by reacting citraconic anhydride with 1, 1-dimethyl-hydrazine. Specification 693,912 is referred to.
