Abstract

953,859. Covered dishes for perishable foodstuffs. REXALL DRUG & CHEMICAL CO. Feb. 22, 1963 [March 7, 1962], No. 7321/63. Heading A4A. An airtight container for perishable foodstuffs e.g. cheese, butter, bread, comprises a base 1 having a top surface 10 spaced above a supporting surface by a peripheral side wall 12 and a continuous leg 14, a lifting handle 15 being provided at each end of the base and integral with a continuous flange 13 projecting from the side wall, and a cover having a top wall 16, a peripheral side wall 17, 18 and a continuous flange 19, the lower part of the side walls of the cover being a sliding fit on the side walls of the base and the flange 19 abutting the flange 13. The cover is preferably moulded in flexibly resilient polyethylene the sides of the base and of the cover being polygonal and tapering outwardly downwardly and the cover being forcibly pushed on to the base. The cover may be lifted directly off the base or swung upwardly, as shown in Fig. 5, about one of the handles to rest in stable equilibrium, the flange 19 being recessed at 20 to form stops preventing sideways movement of the cover relatively to the base. The base is moulded in rigid plastic such as propylene and the surface 10 is pebbled to grip the cheese &c. and forms a cutting board which resists scratching. In a modification the lifting handles are not integral with the flange projecting from the base.
