[Also in Divisions B5 and B6] A printing plate preferably for the offset printing process, consisting of a thermoplastic base-plate which carries at least two layers of different metals on the same side is characterized in that the layers comprise a copper layer of greater thickness and, firmly adhering thereto, a chromium layer of lesser thickness. In an embodiment a copper foil 12, is bonded to a base 14 of synthetic resin by a bonding layer 13 comprising a mat 15 of glass fibres impregnated with a thermosetting resin and a surface layer 11 of chromium is electro-deposited on the copper foil 12. In another embodiment for making a plate for photo offset printing applications a fibre impregnated thermosetting body 34 is bonded to a copper carrier layer 32 having a high affinity for pigment ink. The carrier layer is covered with a pigment repellent layer 31 of dull chromium which subsequently receives a coating of a photo-sensitive resin 36. A reproducible image is then placed on the layer 36 and developed. The borders of the plate are protected by an asphaltic or plastic lacquer 37. The plate is treated with an etching solution to remove the unprotected portions of the metal layer 31 and the photo-sensitive and protective layers 36 and 37 respectively are dissolved by an organic solvent to reveal the required image etched in copper. The exposed copper portions are treated with pigments and provided with a protective coating. Fig. 4 shows a plate 40 according to the last embodiment mounted on a steel cylinder 49 and co-operating with a rubber transfer roller 49<SP>1</SP> which applies the image of copper portions 42<SP>11</SP> to paper. The chromium covered regions 41 of the plate repel pigment.
