An exchanger for the transfer of moisture from one to another of the type described in Specification 770,201, comprises a body through which the gas flows which is formed by helically winding a strip made of one plane and one corrugated sheet joined together along a plurality of lines extending across the width of the sheets so as to form tubular channels therein, the ends of the channels being covered and/or impregnated with a substance, e.g. epoxy resin, which stiffens and bonds the sheets together without blocking said channels. As shown in Fig. 1, the exchanger is in the form of a rotor having a vertical shaft (not shown), a central gear rim 22 for rotation of the rotor and is supported on rollers 16. The bonded ends of the channels are shown at 14. The sheets are formed of asbestos or like paper pretreated with a resin of good impregnating qualities, e.g. a phenolic resin, to strengthen the sheets, in addition to the hygroscopic salt or salts, e.g. lithium bromide or chloride, carried by the asbestos fibres.
