Abstract
953,068. Frequency changer circuits; parametric amplifiers. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Nov. 25, 1960 [Nov. 27, 1959], No. 40592/60. Headings H3B and H3F. A frequency converter comprises a circulator having connected thereto a first high-frequency input source, a frequency converter element to which a second frequency lower than the first is applied, a band-pass filter and a high-frequency energy absorber, the connections succeeding each other in the direction of transmission of energy round the circulator and the converter element being matched to the circulator. The Figure shows a circulator 1 having a 6000 mc/s. signal applied via an arm 5 to an arm 6. Arm 6 includes a frequency conversion element 2 and an input circuit 10 by which a 70 mc/s. signal is applied so that side-band components emerge from arm 6 and travel round the circulator to arm 7 where the upper side-band is selected by a filter 3 and passed to load 9. Arm 8 comprises an absorbing load 4 for the unwanted components. The converter element 2 is matched to the circulator by a transformer or by a quarter-wave line and may be in the form of a parametric amplifier of the type described in Specifications 951,310 and 953,067 in which case the 70 mc/s. signal may be generated by selfexcitation in a resonant circuit connected in input circuit 10 and in which an idler circuit absorbs the unwanted side-band.
