Abstract

952,465. Bulking yarns. EASTMAN KODAK CO. June 17, 1960, No. 47622/63. Divided out of, 952,464. Heading DIF. In apparatus for bulking multifilament yarn by subjecting it to a jet of air at a bulking station, the latter is surrounded by a muffler or shroud so as to reduce the noise produced by the jet. As shown in Fig. 2, the muffler body 16 is a cylinder of rigid sound absorbing material such as bonded glass fibre hinged at 17, to an insulated cap 15, to enable the yarn to be threaded through the jet 6 and slotted guide 14. In another construction, Fig. 4, a portion 21 is connected to portion 22 by parts 43 and 44, the flange and groove engagement at 27 acting as an air seal and supporting portion 22 in its closed position. The shroud is lived, as at 24, with sound absorbing material such as bonded glass fibre. Gaskets may be provided between the two portions of the shroud or muffler. The apparatus, which may be associated with an exhaust system for removing spent air from the jet (see also Specification 952,466) is identical with apparatus described in Specification. 952,464.
