Abstract
952,249. Transistor gain control circuits. IRIS PRODUCTIONS Ltd. Jan. 30, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 3722/62. Heading H3T. A variable gain transistor amplifier, particularly for television fading, comprises a long-tailed pair S2, S4 with a third control transistor S3 in the common tail, the input signal being applied to one transistor of the long-tailed pair and the control signal to the third transistor. In the Figure, a video signal is applied to transistor S2 via an emitter follower S1 and a gain controlling pre-set network R3, C4. The emitters of transistors S2, S4 are coupled by a reversible electrolytic capacitor C4 to reduce degenerative feed-back and the output from the longtailed pair is taken from the collector of transistor S4 and fed to the output emitter follower transistor S5. The supply voltage for the transistors is stabilized by Zener diode S6. Linear variation of the control current supplied to the base of transistor S3 effects linear variation of the overall gain to zero or cut-off.
