Abstract
Indole compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0952187/C2/1> where R is hydrogen or an alkyl group e.g. methyl, Q and Q1 each represent a piperidine, morpholine or pyrollidone nucleus which contains an unsubstituted carbon atom in the 3-position but may carry alkyl substituents having up to 4 carbon atoms in the other positions, and Z represents an alkyl or alkoxy substituent are prepared by adding the appropriate heterocyclic secondary amine to boiling organic solvent solution of isatin or N-methyl isatin. Specified examples of indole compounds are those in which Z is absent and R is hydrogen and either the two substituents rings are the same and each is piperidine or its 3-methyl, 4-methyl, 4-ethyl or 4-phenyl derivatives, morpholine or pyrollidine or the rings are different and selected from piperidine, morpholine or pyrollidine, or R is methyl and the rings are the same and each is piperidine or morpholine.
