Abstract

951,996. Blasting. W. M. ODDIE. Jan. 21, 1963 [Jan. 24, 1962], No. 2739/62. Heading B3D. A blast cleaning machine, for cleaning and preparing foundry castings, forgings and corroded, painted or other articles, has a powerdriven work-holding rotary table located in the blast chamber thereof, the chamber being provided with doors, shutters or closure members adapted to be positioned and operated in such a manner that the table may be either wholly or partially enclosed within the chamber for the machine to operate either intermittently or continuously as desired. A perforated table 1 is housed in a chamber formed by a wall 2 having a peripheral gap, and a preferably counterbalanced roof having a hinged or slidable forward part 3. Pivoted to the wall 2 at each side of the gap are doors 5, 6 whose upper edges lie adjacent to the underside of the roof and whose lower edges terminate at predetermined distances from the surface of the table 1, the spaces between the lower edges and table surface being filled by dependent flexible curtains, e.g. of rubber. Also pivoted to the wall 2 at each side of the gap is a door 7 comprising solid panels whose upper edges terminate near the lower edges of the doors 5, 6 and whose lower edges lie adjacent the table 1. For continuous operation, Fig. 2, the doors 5, 6 are closed inwardly, the doors 7 remaining open. Workpieces continuously supplied to the exposed segment of the table are carried through the blast chamber. For intermittent operation, Fig. 3, all the doors and the part 3 of the roof are opened. After loading of the table, e.g. by a crane, the doors 5, 7 are moved to positions to cover the gap in the wall 2 and the part 3 of the roof is closed. The interior of the blast chamber may be rubber lined.
