Abstract
951,520. Filters. LEJE & THURNE A.B. March 27, 1962 [Jan. 19, 1962], No. 11597/62. Heading B1D. Apparatus for dewatering a pulp suspension comprises a cylindrical strainer 1 having an inlet 8 at one end through which the suspension is fed under pressure, a screw conveyer 2 within said strainer, a portion 3 tapered towards the dried pulp outlet 17 serving to allow the pulp to be compacted followed by further portions 4, 5 of the strainer wherein the dried pulp is subjected to axial pressure prior to its delivery through said outlet 17 which is constricted by an adjustable throttle valve 18. The convergent portion 3 of the strainer is followed by a divergent portion 4 which in turn is followed by a convergent imperforate portion 5 adjacent the outlet 17. The valve 18 is connected by a sleeve 23 to a compressed air actuated plunger 19. Angular displacement of the suspension within the strainer is eliminated by a plurality of longitudinally extending bars 26. Water is collected in a trough 24 and dried fibres fall on to an endless belt conveyer 27. As shown, the screw 2 has a single helical blade but in a modification this blade terminates at the convergent portion 3 of the strainer and a second blade 30, Fig. 3 (not shown), located near the divergent portion 4 extends only half way round the driven shaft 15.
