951,360. Casting processes. H. J. DAUSSAN. May 9, 1962 [May 25, 1961], No. 17816/62. Heading B3F. Deoxidants are distributed during the filling of the mould L1 by means of a float F which distributes the deoxidants throughout the perimeter of the mould but at a predetermined distance from the walls thereof and maintains a screen to prevent the resultant oxides from reaching the mould walls. The float is made from alternate layers of plain and corrugated cardboard which is fireproofed as described in Specification 906,845 which is referred to, and aluminium rods 6 and sheet 11 are incorporated in the recess 5 in the lower face defined by a rim 4. When the float reaches the upper end of its travel, it may be removed or if some aluminium remains, powdered iron oxide may be spread over the surface to act with the aluminium as anti-piping powder.
