950,650. Abrading plastic cones. TEXTILE PAPER TUBE CO. Ltd. Nov. 5, 1962 [Nov. 3, 1961], No. 39371/61. Heading B3D. [Also in Division B8] Moulded plastic cones 10 used as cores for yarn or cop winding are roughened by inserting them upon a series of circularly-arranged spindles 19 rotatively mounted on a turret 17 which is rotatable so as to bring successive cones into contact with a strip 39 of card clothing on a belt 42, the strip 39 at its point of contact with the rotating cone being arranged to move in a direction opposite to that of the cone. The cones 10 are slipped on to the coned ends 18 of the spindles 19 which are mounted with planet wheels 22 driven by a sun wheel 23 rotatably mounted in the turret and belt driven by a motor 30. The band 42 passes over a driven roller 44 and idler 43 and carries the strip 39 in helical form so as to provide for the roughening of the complete surface of a cone; the wire teeth of the clothing are of bent form so as to tend to dig into the surface of the cone. The turret is intermittently indexed by means 36 acting through gears 31, 32<SP>1</SP> to bring successive cones into operative position. The apex of each cone bears against a cam 61<SP>1</SP> during the indexing operation so as to urge it firmly on to the spindle 19 and each cone, after the roughening operation, is moved to a position in which an ejector rod 68 can be moved to withdraw the cone from its spindle into a sleeve 66. Waste produced during the operation is removed by a suction pipe 59.
