950,636. Photographic materials and processes. KODAK Ltd. March 30, 1961 [April 18, 1960], No.11616/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading G2C. The speed of a photographic silver halide emulsion is increased by incorporating therein a colloidal noble metal or a colloidal zinc or silver sulphide and developing the material in the presence of a polyalkylene oxide or derivative thereof, said alkylene oxide having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and the polymer having a molecular weight of at least S300. The polyoxyalkylene compound is preferably in the emulsion, but may be incorporated in the developer. The noble metals are defined as silver, gold, platinum and palladium. The polyalkylene compound may be polyethylene oxide itself or a condensation product thereof with an alcohol, amine, phenol, mercaptan, acid or amide, or with acetylene, dibenzoylmethane or a hexitol ring dehydration product. The silver halide emulsion preferably contains iodide, or an iodide may be included in the developer. The emulsions may contain the usual addenda such as optical and chemical sensitizers and antifoggants. Specifications 380, 431, 380,851, 548,019, 592,676, 600,058, 871, 801 and U.S.A.
