In a spinning frame, a thread breakage indicator mounted in the space between two spindles comprises an eye member serving as the thread guide for one such spindle and having at least one eye-forming part which is movably mounted with respect to a housing. This part is directly engaged by the tensioned thread and positively held thereby in one of its two limiting positions whilst upon breakage of the thread it moves towards the other limiting position to actuate an indicating means. In the device shown, thread passes through an eye 1 formed by parts 2 and 5 of member 6 (adjustably secured by a screw 10) and an adjustable lever 3 the movement of which to limiting positions (representing normal thread passage and breaking or cessation of thread) rotates a pivot 4 on a bearing ball 17 to cause a pin 24 carried on a reduced portion 23 to deform a spring 25 and thus maintain electrical contacts 27 and 28 apart or to allow the spring to close the contacts and so complete an earthed-return circuit to illuminate an alarm lamp 29. The working parts are contained in longitudinally divided housings 7 and 8 the latter independently openable by means of a flexible tongue 22 fitting in dust-proof manner in .grooves 21. The housing walls, where penetrated by rotary members are rendered dust-proof by seals, as at 15, or a locknut 16 associated with screw 10. Dust deposition is prevented by sloping walls at 49 and sloping projections 50, 51, adjacent passage slots 9 for lever 3 and member 6. The combined housing 7, 8, may be swung about a hinge axis 41 into the position, shown in Fig. 5, which facilitates bobbin change or thread re-engagement, the lamp circuit being interrupted by consequential disengagement of tips 33, 35, from contact plates 37. The eye 1 may be formed by two members having cooperating curved portions open on the same side, Fig. 9 (not shown) or by a single member Fig. 10 (not shown).
