Abstract
Wires (used to weave belts for Fourdrinier machines) have coatings thereon of a solid, water-insoluble, film-forming material adding to the wire diameter 0,0005 inch nominal. The wires may be of brass, bronze, aluminium, steel or stainless steel. The coating may be of nylon 66, polyurethane, linear or branched polyethylene, crystalline polypropylene, polytetrafluorethylene, vinyl chloride polymer, vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers, melanine-formaldehyde, butylated melamine-formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde resin. It may be deposited from solutions, e.g. in the case of polyamides or polyurethanes, or from aqueous emulsions, e.g. in the case of polyethylene, polypropylene or polytetrafluorethylene, or as a plastisol or organosol. The wire may be passed through a bath of lacquer, through sizing dies, and then to a curing oven. A multi-coating process may be used. U.S.A. Specification 2,496,052 is referred to.ALSO:A woven wire belt for a Fourdrinier machine comprises wires having thereon a thin coating of a solid, water-insoluble, film-forming material. The warp wires have a diameter within the range from 0. 007 inch to 0. 0105 inch, and the weft wires within the range from 0. 008 inch to 0. 012 inch. The coating has a thickness of 0. 0005 inch nominal with a tolerance of from \sB0. 001 inch for wires of the smallest diameter in each range to \sB0. 0002 inch for wires of the largest diameter in each range. The wires may be coated before weaving and may be of brass, bronze, aluminium, steel or stainless steel, and warp and weft may be of different metals. The coating may be of thermoplastic or thermosetting synthetic resin, examples of both are given in the Specification. The coating may be on the warp wires only, the weft wires only or both warp and weft wires. It increases the weavability of the wires, and their resistance to corrosion in service. The wires may be woven twill. The ends of the belt may be seamed together by brazing, and the belt mounted on rollers to pass over a suction box. U.S.A. Specification 2,496,052 is referred to.
