Abstract

948,862. Road vehicle suspensions. MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR A.G. June 7, 1962 [June 9, 1961], No. 22065/62. Heading B7D. A motor vehicle independent wheel suspension comprises a longitudinal arm 2 adapted to swing about a horizontal axis and spring loaded by a supporting spring 17 which is located on the upper face of the arm by a bearing at a distance of one quarter to one third of the length of the arm from the wheel axis, the arm being provided on one side with a mounting for a shock absorber. The longitudinal arm 2, may be fabricated from two U- shaped channel members having flanges 8, 9, welded together and the bearing for the supporting spring, which may be helical, may be an angle bracket 18 having flanges 19 and 20 welded to the arm, the lower end of the spring, which may be helical, seating upon a flanged plate 22 with the possible interpositioning of a resilient cushioning member, as that, 24, Fig. 2, which may be included in the upper securing arrangement, which includes a dished plate 23. The shock absorber, 10, is mounted on the side of the arm 2 by a bolt 14 passing through an eye formed on the shock absorber and containing a plastic bush 13, and a bolt carrying member welded to the arm. A bracket 16 may be provided. The shock absorber may be located on the outside of the front arm and on the inside of the rear arm, Fig. 6.
