Abstract
948,024. Valves. J. R. DEWIDELS. May 10, 1962 [May 10, 1961], No. 16931/61. Heading F2V. A power-operated butterfly valve 4 has an actuating mechanism wherein a push rod 9 operated by a motor is connected to one or more flexible elements 13 attached to a drum 15 on the valve spindle 3, whereby longitudinal movement of the rod causes rotation of the spindle. The elements 13 may be steel tapes clamped to the rod 9 and to the drum 15 by blocks 14, 16. Alternatively, a single tape may be wrapped one or more times around the drum or the tape may form an endless loop around both the drum and a further drum (not shown) on a bracket 5, one of the runs of the tape being connected to a block adjustably secured to the push rod which has its axial travel limited by adjustable screwed stops. The spindle may also be operated by a single tape held in tension by a spring.
