Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of general formula: <FORM:0947495/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 represent alkyl radicals, R3 represents hydrogen or an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radical, R4 represents a hydroxyalkyl or arylhydroxyalkyl radical, and X represents an alkylene group; their acid addition salts; and their preparation by reacting an 7-halogenoalkyl-8-benzyl-1, 3-dialkylxanthine with an amine of formula HNR3R4. Pharmaceutical compositions of the above xanthines for oral (tablets, capsules, liquids), parenteral (solutions) and rectal (suppositories) administration are mentioned. The compounds stimulate the central nervous system and have a spasmolytic action on muscles and a positive inotropic action on the heart. Specification 947,494 is referred to.
