Abstract
947,064. Aerials. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. June 24, 1960 [July 2, 1959], No. 22679/59. Heading H4A. An inflatable radio wave reflector comprises an inflatable base of double pile textile fabric, which is rendered gas-tight, and an inflatable erection means whereby sheets of reflective material connected to the erecting means and to the base are held flat in mutually perpendicular relation. The base is formed of two sheets 1, 2 and a closure strip 4, and is inflated through a valve 5 to render it substantially rigid. A hemispherical envelope 6 is attached to a sleeve 7 which is sealed to the perimeter of the lower base sheet 1 and is inflated through a valve 8. Reflective sheets 10, 11 are mounted perpendicular to sheets 12, 13, these sheets being mounted on a further sheet 9, also of reflective material. The sheets 10, 11, 12, 13 are secured to the envelope 6 either all along the junction or at only one or two points thereon. A resilient member 16 is secured to the common join of the reflective sheets 10, 11, 12, 13 and to the upper base sheet 2 to prevent the reflective sheets from creasing. The erecting means may alternatively comprise struts secured to the base and the sheets, or be formed of double pile, similar to the base construction. Wire struts may be provided for bracing the assembly when inflated, and the reflector may be inflated from a single valve. Specification 913,547 is referred to.
