Abstract
946,551. Valves. REGIE NATIONAL DES USINES RENAULT. April 20, 1960 [May 12, 1959], No. 13857/60. Heading F2V. A solenoid 2, Fig. 1, within a metal or plastic housing 1, co-operates with a readily removable valve arrangement comprising a metal e.g. brass or plastic sleeve 5 embodying a seat 6 with which coacts a frusto-conical headed closure-member 7 of elastic material e.g. rubber or plastic having a cylindrical part 24 and a larger diameter part with peripheral guiding splines. A hollow closure member 4, which is slidable in the sleeve 5, is actuated by a soft-iron lever 28 to which a blade of magnetic material is attached by a rubber member 31; a cover 34 of transparent plastic material fits on the housing 1. The lever 28 is rocked by the solenoid 2 or by a rubber push button 32 housing cam means thereon which upon rotation of the button holds the lever in the operated position; the button embodies a flange 39 which acts as a non-return valve to permit venting of the housing and prevent ingression of foreign matter. The outlet fitting 41 may be disposed in any one of three different angular positions. With the lever 28 in the inoperative position shown, pressure air in the metal or plastic inlet 8 urges the closure 7 on to its seat 6, the air also passing through radial ports 17 in the closure 7 into an annular chamber and from thence to the area around the seat 6 via the peripheral splines. The closure 4 is located to vent the outlet 41 through a groove 48, radial ports 47, the interior of closure 4, ports 15, housing 1, and button 32. Upon energizing the solenoid or pressing the button 32 the lever 28 firstly moves the closure 4 until it abuts the closure 7 and closes the vent path, and then unseats the closure 7 to supply pressure air to the outlet 41 through the ports 47 and groove 48. When the lever 28 is released the closure 7 is seated by the inlet pressure and the closure 4 is moved to the vent position partly by the closure 7 and partly by the pressure acting on its end 22. In a modification, the lever actuates a rod 59, Fig. 5, to which a peripherally-splined closuremember 54 is attached; with the lever in the inoperative position the outlet is supplied with pressure air from the inlet 61 via a seat 62 normally opened by the closure 54, radial ports 56 and a groove 57. When the lever is moved to its operative position the groove 57 is vented through a seat 58 normally closed by the closure 54. The valve arrangement is suitable for rapid operation and small energizing currents.
