[Also in Division G5] A side-loading gramophone, in which the insertion of a record 1 in the general direction of a guide-rod 6 engages a pin 4 mounted in a sliding member 3 and advances it an amount depending on the record diameter, has a twospeed change-gear operated by the movements of a pin 7, also mounted in the sliding member and engaging a lever 8. A motor 20, carrying a two-step roller 27 and driving the turn-table 2 by a friction idler 12 in usual manner, is mounted by a blade-spring member 19 and may be raised and lowered by a roller 29 engaging a face-cam track in the region 28 of the lever 8. As shown, with a 7 inch record loaded, the larger step 27 gives 45 r.p.m. For 10 inch or 12 inch records the pin 7 engages either of two points on the straight region 34 of the lever 8, which is then parallel to the guide 6 (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), giving in each case 33 r.p.m. After playing, and ejection of the record by spring 5, the lever 8 moves further anti-clockwise so that a link 11 pushes a pin 17 to disengage the friction roller 12, an oblong slot providing sufficient lost-motion to accommodate the clockwise, speed-changing movements of the lever.
