Abstract
946,123. Toys. BAUMGARTNER FRERES S.A. Dec. 12, 1960 [Dec. 18, 1959; Oct. 19, 1960], No. 42609/60. Heading A6S. [Also in Division H4] The net resultant output of two oppositely connected photovoltaic cells 1, 2 (Fig. 1) carried by the spindle of an electric motor 3 which controls the steering mechanism of a movable object, e.g. an electrically driven toy, operates a change over switch 3 to one or other of its two positions and so connects the battery 11 to the motor with such polarity that the latter rotates in one or the other direction determined by which one of the cells receives the greater amount of light. Instead of mounting the cells as shown in Fig. 1 they may be secured to the motor spindle as shown in Fig. 3. In an alternative form the steering control cells may be mounted on e.g. the head-lamps of a toy motor car &c. as shown at 15, 16, Fig. 4, the net resultant output in this case operating a normally "off" change over switch 17 to control the direction of rotation of the steering motor 18. The toy, additionally carries two further photo-electric cells 28, 29 mounted respectively at the front and rear and operating via a further switch 30 to control the direction of rotation of a further motor 31 which drives the toy forwardly in response to illumination of cell 28 and rearwardly in response to illumination of cell 29.
