Abstract

945,420. Transistor automatic gain control circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 15, 1961 [Dot. 21, 1960], No. 33188/61. Heading H3T. A transistor radio receiver includes a grounded emitter stage 7 with a variable resistor 10 connected between the collector supply and the base for adjusting the D.C. working point, lowpass and high-pass filters connected in parallel between the receiver detector 4 and the base of the transistor 7, and a current dependent resistive network 12, 13, 14 shunted by a capacitor 11 in the transistor emitter circuit. Received signals are detected by the diode 4, and fed to the low-pass filter 6 which filters out the modulation to provide the a.g.c. signal, and also to the high-pass filter comprising a manual volume control potentiometer 8 and capacitor 9 which passes the modulation. The outputs from both filters are applied to the base of the transistor 7, the operating point of which may be adjusted by resistor 10. Amplified a.g.c. is taken from the emitter circuit across the non- linear network 12, 13, 14 and is fed to the front end stages 1, 2 which are to be controlled. In order that the stages 1, 2 may be biased to zero emitter current before the gain of amplifier 7 is reduced, the emitters of these stages are connected to a bias source 15.
