945,228. Dynamometers. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb. 22, 1962 [Feb. 22, 1961], No. 6914/62. Heading G1W. A device for measuring forces in two or more directions comprises a holder in which slits 4, 6, 9 form an outer portion 1, an intermediate portion 2 and an inner portion 3. Horizontal tongues 8 are thus formed which support the intermediate part 2 so that it is resilient in vertical direction but rigidly connected with the outer portion in horizontal direction. Vertical tongues 10 are also formed which allow the inner part 3 to be resilient in horizontal direction but rigid in vertical direction. One of the slits 9 is shaped to carry pressuresensing means 11. The slits 4 terminate in shorter horizontal slits 5 and below the slit 5 is a recess 6 which carries pressure-sensing means 11. For application to the measurement of the tension in a strip in a rolling mill, the shaft of a guiding roller over which the strip runs, Fig. 2, is held in the inner part 3 of the holder. The strip exerts on the guiding roller a force F which is dependent on the tension in the strip 13 and an angle α through which it heads when passing over the roller, and the pressure-sensing means 7 measures only the vertical component F v of the force F, while the pressure-sensing means 11 measures only the horizontal component F H .
