A switch-actuating mechanism comprises a system of primary plungers such as 14, 16, 17, mounted in line with their long axes parallel, each such primary plunger when displaced directly performing a switching operation, and at least one such plunger, e.g. 14 or 16, being further displaceable to displace at least one other secondary plunger such as 15, which performs a further switching operation. Plunger 17 has an integral rib 21 projecting through a slot 13 in a support-plate 10 and is depressible against spring 18 until nib 21 is latched by a latching mechanism 20, the downward movement of plunger 17 causing a cam face 23 thereon to bear on cam follower 28 of a spring blade 25 to cause making of a contact 29 via an operating comb 27 supported by spring blades 25, 26, of a springset assembly 19. Plungers 14, 16, one similarly latched and further depression of either of these plungers operates the secondary plunger 15, which is retractive. Further embodiments use pins passing through the upper ends of the primary plungers and engaging in U-shaped slots in the secondary plungers to give another method of actuation thereof (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The primary plungers may be coupled together so as to be operable as a unit (Figs. 6a, 6b, not shown).
