945,013. Measuring temperature electrically; recording apparatus; determining melting points. MORRIS MOTORS Ltd. March 16,1962 [March 25,1961], No. 10996/61. Headings G1D, G1J and G1N. The carbon equivalent of an iron melt, indicating the relative quantities of carbon, silicon and phosphorus in the melt, is determined by measuring the temperature at which a sample of the melt solidifies, and establishing the carbon equivalent from a relationship obtained experimentally. The liquid iron sample is poured into a refactory mould 8 (Fig. 1) and the temperature, as measured by a thermocouple 9, is continuously recorded on a moving chart 5, calibrated in terms of temperature and carbon equivalent.
