[Also in Divisions A4 and E2] A fingerplate or other plate-like article (which according to the Provisional Specification may be a mirror, picture or sign) for attachment to a wall, door or like surface comprises a frame element 1 having a rim 4, and a panel 3 adapted to be fitted into the frame element to conceal the holes for fixing screws, the panel and/or the frame element being made of a substance, e.g. polystyrene, affording a slight degree of yield, and the method of fitting the panel into the frame element comprising the steps of arching the panel, inserting its end portions into the frame element, and restoring the panel to its normal flat condition so that the points of emergence of the panel from the frame element move into and along an intermediate portion of the panel which is incapable of initial insertion into the frame element, whereby the frame element is slightly sprung outwardly and/or a rim portion of the panel is slightly sprung inwardly. The points c at which the panel initially emerges from the frame element may be located where the curved ends of the panel merge into the straight sides, or alternatively the width of the panel may be slightly relieved for a distance along its straight sides so that the length of the intermediate portion is reduced. The lower edge of the rim of the panel may be slightly chamfered. According to the Provisional Specification the plate is secured to the frame element by providing tabs or pegs on one of these parts which engage, respectively, between pairs of projections or in holes formed on the other part.
