Abstract
A dry soap powder composition is made by a process in which sodium metasilicate present in the composition is neutralized, at least in part, with fat-free fatty acid. In general, the sodium metasilicate is treated with fatty acid until the alkalinity has been reduced to 10-12% (free Na2O) of its original value and has a pH of about 10.5; the neutralized sodium silicate should then comprise 5-10% by weight of the composition.
