Abstract

943,183. Valves. WHITEY RESEARCH TOOL CO. June 15, 1962 [Sept. 15, 1961], No. 23040/62. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a rotatable plug 1 having a passageway 3, a stem 2 extending from the plug and having peripheral grooves 4, resilient sealing inserts 6, 7 surrounding the plug and the grooved portion of the stem, the inserts having ports 8 for communication with the passageway 3, and housing members 10, 11 maintaining the inserts under compression and having passageways 28, 29 communicating with the ports therein. A handle 35 is secured to the stem by a set-screw 37 and has a rib 38 with a flat surface 40 which co-operates with a stop 39 to limit the angular travel of the valve to 90 degrees. Alternatively, the stop may cooparate with projections spaced 90 degrees apart on the periphery of the rib. The inserts are of polytetrafluoroethylene.
