Abstract

942,837. Semi-conductor devices; electric discharge apparatus. COOL FIN ELECTRONICS CORPORATION. April 19, 1961 [May 2, 1960], No. 14114/61. Headings H1D and H1K. A heat-dissipating, electrostatic shield for electronic components, such as vacuum tubes, transistors, rectifiers or diodes, comprises cooling fins extending radially and longitudinally of the shield, and retaining means to interlock with a socket adapted to receive the component, the shield being shaped and dimensioned to surround the component in substantially continuous heat - conductive contact therewith. As shown, the shield comprises a plurality of finned elements 5, Fig. 1, bonded to a vacuum tube envelope 1 by means of an epoxy resin or an elastomer containing carbon black or colloidal graphite. Each element 5 is formed with a spring tab 6 which engages the upper lip 4 of a skirt 3 surrounding the tube socket 2. In an alternative arrangement, the lower ends of the finned elements 11, Fig. 5, lie outside the socket skirt 8, and two diametrically opposite elements are formed with slots 10 which engage with pins 8a on skirt 8. The shield shown in Fig. 6 comprises a continuous sheet, bent to form arcuate sections 12 engaging the tube envelope and V-shaped fins 13, and a lower portion 15 having spring tags 14 which engage the tube socket skirt. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 908,087.
