[Also in Division E1] In a tamping and percussion device, Fig. 1, the driving engine 20 for a tamper piston 12 is mounted on resilient elements, which may be springs 22, which are located in a plane passing through the centre of gravity S of the engine. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the shorter arm of the tamper housing 14 is the lower one and the common plane of the point S and the resilient element is vertical and also passes through the centre point of the tamper plate 10. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, the engine crank-shaft 24 is mounted in members 32 separated from an extension 13 of the tamper housing 14 by resilient rubber cushions 30. In a still further embodiment (not shown) three springs 22 are mounted symmetrically about the longitudinal central plane of the device in the same plane as each other and the centre of gravity of the engine.
