Abstract

Shaped articles, e.g. films, sheets, filaments, fibres, ribbons, flock, woven and non-woven fabrics and knitted goods, of polymerized unsaturated hydrocarbons contain homogeneously distributed micro-disperse silica with a particle size of 100-10 mm and are dyed with basic dyes. The articles may contain 1-10%, preferably 2-5% of the silica which preferably has a particle size of 25-10 mm . The polymers may contain units of vinyl, vinylidene and alkyl compounds, styrene, a -methyl-styrene, butadiene, isoprene and especially ethylene and crystalline polypropylene. The polyolefins should be film-forming and preferably should have a molecular weight above 20,000. Examples of dyeing sheets of polyethylene and polypropylene containing microdisperse silica are given.ALSO:Shaped articles of polymerized unsaturated hydrocarbons containing homogeneously distributed microdisperse silica with a particle size of 100-10 mm are dyed with basic dyes. The articles may contain 1-10%, preferably 2-5% of the silica which preferably has a particle size of 25-10 mm . The shaped articles may be films, sheets, filaments, fibres, ribbons, flock, woven and non-woven fabrics and knitted goods of polymers containing units of vinyl, vinylidene and allyl compounds, styrene, a -methyl-styrene, butadiene, isoprene and especially ethylene and crystalline polypropylene. The polyolefins should be film-forming and their molecular weight should preferably be greater than 20,000. The basic dyes may be salts of dyes of the diaryl-methane, triarylmethane, azine, thiazine and oxazine series as well as salts formed by dyes, which are free of acid groups, of the azo, anthraquinone and phthalocyanine series with inorganic or low molecular weight organic acids. In the examples basic dyes are applied to polyethylene and polypropylene sheets containing microdispense silica from a dyebath containing acetic acid and the condensation product of 1 mol octadecyl alcohol with 20 mols ethylene oxide.
